FAFSA sorry for Kristen Wiig 'Help me. I'm poor' tweet

The largest provider of student financial aid apologized Wednesday for a social media post it admitted was insensitive.

A tweet from the Federal College Financial Aid account featured a photo meme of Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids from the airplane scene with a caption, "Help me. I'm poor."

The message said "If this is you, then you better fill out your FAFSA."

In the movie, an incapacitated Wiig said the phrase as she tries to weasel her way into a first-class seat.

Folks in academia criticized the tweet. President of Monroe Community College Anne Kress in New York called the message 'unbelievable.'

The tweet has since been taken down. And FAFSA issued an apology tweet, saying "We apologize for the insensitivity of our previous tweet. Our goal is to make college a reality for all. We're very sorry."

College grads, if you can see the silver lining: You will still earn far more over a lifetime than a worker with no more than a high school diploma, according to a recent report by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
