Edward Waters College President Nat Glover meets with President Donald Trump

Steven Dial reports. 3/1/2017

Edward Waters College President Nat Glover was one of several Historically Black College and University presidents that met with President Donald Trump Monday in the Oval Office.

Glover also met with Trump Tuesday as he signed an executive order expressing the White House's commitment to HBCUs.

Glover says that this was a one of a kind experience.

"What I saw was a legitimate interest in poor kids. What I saw was a genuine interest in education. What I heard was the sincerity in the effort to make the admission to higher education available to lower income students."

Glover and about 90 other college presidents met with President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

Glover believes the president showed a genuine interest in helping black colleges.

"What I saw was an energy around this whole notion of education all of our young people. What I heard was sincerity to make higher education available to lower income students."

Despite no funding being attached to Trumps executive order, Glover says meeting with people like Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and others make him hopeful that more options with pell grants and funding could come soon.

"You had bipartisan support and huge support from Republicans."
