JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Governor and First Lady Scott have announced San Pablo Elementary School as the winner of the Governor's Wellness Challenge.

The Governor's Wellness Challenge promotes healthy lifestyles and fitness. San Pablo was one of six winning schools selected based on achievements shown in a video entry.

San Pablo and the other winning schools will receive $2,500 to be used to purchase fitness equipment for the school.

The Governor's Wellness Challenge is aimed at encouraging and recognizing Florida schools for excelling in teaching students the importance of living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The challenge is supported by Florida's Foundation and UnitedHealth Group.

To win, schools had to submit a DVD showcasing how the school is actively promoting wellness, fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

"Fitness and nutrition are strongly linked to healthy minds," Governor Scott said. "As we work to provide our students a good education, it is important to also teach them how to fuel their bodies and minds through balanced diets and physical activity. These tools will allow Florida's children to succeed not only in the classroom, but also throughout their lives."

First Lady Scott said, "Developing healthy habits at a young age is the best way to ensure an overall healthy lifestyle for our children.  This contest was a creative way to encourage schools to promote healthy life choices."
