JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Northwestern Middle School will be able to officially begin the Lower Cambridge program. They are the second school in Duval County to receive this honor.

Northwestern will join Jefferson Davis Middle in the 2012-13 school year as a Lower Cambridge school.

The schools are approved for English, mathematics and science.  The University of Cambridge's International Examinations is the world's larges provider of international education programs and qualifications for 5 to 19-year-olds.

Northwestern will be able to access teacher guides and online trainings, schemes of work and a resource bank of past exam papers, mark schemes and examiner reports.

In addition, students will be able to access resources designed to help them study and prepare for the exams.

In order to be designated a Lower Cambridge School a school must complete several steps.

The school must express an interest in one of the four programs offered, Primary, Secondary 1, Secondary 2 or Advanced.

The University of Cambridge International Examinations will then make contact with the school to find out more about the school and the students.

A school visit is then scheduled to determine how the school handles four aspects: management and leadership, teaching and learning, educational values and physical environment.
