JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Edward Waters College could be on the verge of losing its accreditation.
It's been a year since The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges reviewed the college and elected to place the school on Warning, according to a statement on the SACS website.
This month, the SACS board will meet to once again review EWC's progress since last year's review.
According to the statement, EWC failed to meet core requirements set forth by the SACS including having an adequate full-time faculty, identifying and evaluating expected outcomes and using those findings to improve educational programs, and providing support for the achievement of its Quality Enhancement Plan.
"Essentially, it's a paperwork issue and something that is easy to fix," college spokesman Blake Hacht told our news partner the Florida Times-Union. "We feel the warning doesn't have to do with the quality of education provided to our students. It's more about providing documentation to them about our programs."
SACS has a few options when deciding what this means for the college.
The accrediting body could just remove EWC from Warning status or it could keep the school on Warning and require the college to submit more paperwork.
But SACS could also choose to keep EWC on Warning or Probation, and put together a Special Committee to review additional paperwork.
SACS could decide to revoke EWC's membership with the Commission on Colleges.
