TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A bill introduced by Sen. Stephen Wise would require school districts to call "Winter Break" to "Christmas Break."  First Coast News spoke with the senator to find out why he thinks it's necessary.

Wise said for years people have told him it's time to take off for "Winter Break."  But he said if the break comes just because it's winter, then school shouldn't really take a break at all.

"This is about Christmas.  December 25th is Christmas," the senator said in an interview this morning in Tallahassee.

"The majority of the people in America are Christians," he said, adding, "We respect the rights of the minority, but it comes to the point where the minority doesn't need to be running the majority."

Asked why he believes the name "Winter Break" came to be in the first place, Wise said, "I think it's political correctness to the Nth degree."
