TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- And the winner is...

Reedy Creek Elementary School in Osceola County wins the Summer Literacy Adventure for students across Florida.

Florida First lady Ann Scott promoted the literacy program over the summer by encouraging students to pledge to read books when they were out of school. At Reedy Creek Elementary, 478 children pledged to read 7,124 books.

Scott read to students at 17 different locations around the state over the summer, including Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee. At that event, she talked about her own love of reading and its benefits.

"Books can have such a profound impact on you the reader. It can help you learn new words, increase your vocabulary, it can help you explore new places, places you might not go otherwise and it can even help you in school, make school easier."

Statewide, more than 8,000 students participated in the Summer Literacy Adventure and pledged to read more than 100,000 books.
