JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County School Board said no to seven charter schools, according to spokeswoman Jill Johnson.

Those schools included Aspire Prep Academy, Bringing Exceptional Students Together (B.E.S.T), Duval Charter School of Science and Technology, Florida Virtual Academy, Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy of Technology and Sciences, Marcus Garvey Academy and Renaissance Virtual Charter School of Duval.

All were proposed new schools, but Johnson said the board found something wrong with at least a portion of each of those applications.

Board members opted to take up applications to the KIPP School at its Nov. 1 board meeting.

That charter school, which Governor Rick Scott used as the backdrop to sign the teacher merit pay bill, received an "F" for its performance during its first year.
