Driver faces charges in fatal crash

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A Lake City man is facing charges after crashing his car Thursday night, killing his passenger.

Waymon Earl Butts, Jr., 34, was heading eastbound on NW Nash Road around 10:45 p.m., when he ran into standing water on the road and lost control of his car, according to a release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Butts' car left the roadway and ended up in a large flooded area to the south of the road and car overturned. The car was fully submerged, the release detailed.

Butt's passenger, 44-year-old Sherriol Deniese Ingraham was rescued from the car and air lifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where she died early Friday morning.

Butt's was arrested and charged with homicide negligent manslaughter vehicle and a traffic offense, according to the Columbia County Jail. Butt's is being held without bond.
