JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Discovered just days before turning 18, Meghan Runkle's body was found in the woods, about 200 yards from Jennings State Park. Police are calling this a homicide investigation. The girl's stepmother, who lives in New York, tells First Coast News the teen was staying with friends but then hit a few hardships. She wanted to come home and start over. "She wanted to get back in contact with her family. She wanted to get a car, she wanted to get a job and put herself through school. She had so many choices that she wanted to do," says stepmother, Rebecca Jageacks. These were choices her stepmother said were tragically taken from her. Neighbors living near the park say they've never really seen anything out of the ordinary. They say security is usually on top of things. "The forest rangers try to do their best to keep kids or teenagers or anybody to go back there and do their partying. There's not really any parties out there because there's no electricity," says park neighbor, Jennifer Rapp. Right now there are no leads. It's something that Meghan's family in California and in New York hopes will change. "We are all very floored by this news. We just want answers," says Jageacks. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your information leads to an arrest.
