JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Catholic school on the Northside fell victim to thieves who stole copper wire from several air conditioners on the campus.
School employees at St. Pius V Parrish School at 1435 W. 13th Street reported the theft to police on Wednesday afternoon.
According to director of communications for the Diocese of St. Augustine Kathleen Bagg-Morgan, school principal Sister Elise Kennedy, SSJ, reported that four of the units were on the school's roof, and they were damaged beyond repair.
Another unit was also damaged, but can be repaired.
Bagg-Morgan said the cost to replace and repair the units is estimated at $45,000, and that includes things such as a crane that will be necessary to get the units off the roof.
