LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Lake City Middle School was placed on lockdown this morning following a reported burglary and shooting in a nearby home.
According to Columbia County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Edward Seifert, the report came from a home on Southwest Leslie Glen at about 11:15.
The resident reported that she entered her home and was confronted by a person with a knife or sharp instrument.
She said she was cut several times in the confrontation, but was able to get a gun and fire at the suspect, but she was unsure if the suspect, who then fled out the back door, was hit.
The sheriff's office began a search, including locking down the school, but was unable to find the suspect.
The school lockdown was canceled about an hour later, Seifert said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of what Seifert indicated did not appear to be life-threatening injuries.
If you know anything that can help police find the suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 386-754-7099. You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest.
The sheriff's office cautions, however, that the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
