Update: Zero crime, or map error? JSO releases service calls

Update: Here are all calls for service for all 302 lots at 8995 Normandy Boulevard, Normandy Estates from Jan. 1 - July, 2014:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sunday night's homicide of a 36-year-father of two has shaken the Westside community of Normandy Estates. According to residents, it's just the latest and most violent in a pattern of crimes.

"A lot of these people around here -- probably five out of ten have been robbed," resident Antonio Gonzales told First Coast News.

But that version of events does not fall in line with JSO's crime mapping website. As the image above shows, a search for all crimes within a one-mile radius of the development shows zero crimes. Not a single robbery, not even Sunday's homicide.

The website's disclaimer says the information might not always be complete. But the Normandy Estates picture is a stark contrast to the neighborhood next door, which has 50 or so reported crimes since the start of the year.

We asked JSO spokesperson Melissa Bujeda about the apparent anomaly. She would not say whether or not the map was accurate. Instead, she invited First Coast News to make a formal request for calls for service records -- an address by address search of each of the 300-plus homes in Normandy Estates. We've asked for that information, and will follow up when it becomes available.
