Teen shot in chest near Springfield

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A teenager is recovering after being shot through the chest early Thursday morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 2800 block of Market Street around 2 a.m. for reports of gunfire.

Lt. Dan Kenney said a relative who was out looking for the 19-year-old discovered him on a sidewalk bleeding and unconscious.

That relative then drove the teen to UF Health at Jacksonville, where Kenney said he was still unconscious, but in stable condition.

Officers believe the shooting took place at the same location where the teen was located.

Kenney said officers do not have any suspect information at this time. He said detectives hope to learn more once the victim regains consciousness.

The relative is not being identified at this time. Kenney said the victim lives near where the shooting took place.

Anyone who has any information about this shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.

To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000 contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
