Teen critically injured and one man dead in NW Jax shooting

A 16-year-old girl and a man were shot overnight on Jacksonville's Northwest Side.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person is dead and a teenager is in critical condition following an overnight shooting in northwest Jacksonville.

Police arrived on scene at 12:45 a.m. Sunday to find a man dead and a 16-year-old girl in critical condition in the 10100 block of Melanie Avenue. The girl was taken to a local hospital to be treated. The victm's mother says she was shot in the chest but will undergo more surgery and is, "doing fine."

Neighbors tell First Coast News that the victim is a student at First Coast High School.

The suspect and victims knew each other, according to the police investigation, and were involved in an argument which escalated into violence.
