Suspect in Lake City bar shooting surrenders

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- The man accused of drunkenly shooting two people with one bullet outside a Lake City bar has turned himself in, authorities said.

Robert Church surrendered Wednesday, according to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Church, 29, is charged with aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public.

Deputies launched a search for Church after a closing-time shooting at the Elks Lodge July 5 sent a bouncer and a bystander to the hospital.

It was about 2:30 a.m. when Church got into a scuffle with two women at the bar, deputies said. A security guard stepped in and removed all three from the premises.

That's when Church allegedly went to his vehicle, grabbed a handgun and shot the security guard. The bullet passed through the guard and struck a woman standing nearby, deputies said.

Both were taken to Shands at UF Hospital in Gainesville with non-life threatening injuries.

Church is being held in Columbia County Detention Facility without bond.
