Suspect dies after high-speed police chase

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The suspect behind the wheel of a vehicle that led police on a high-speed chase through the East Arlington neighborhood Sunday morning died after his vehicle struck a power pole, police said.

The suspect was speeding north on Girvin Road with police in tow after midnight when he forced two oncoming cars off the road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The 1.4 mile chase came to an abrupt end when the suspect's vehicle hit a utility pole in the 900 block of Girvin Road.

Police said the suspect died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
