Man shoots brother-in-law in Orange Park Country Club, deputies

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A man shot his brother-in-law during an argument at a home in the Orange Park County Club Saturday night, according to police.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Riad Akel grabbed his 9mm handgun during a dispute with family members in the 2500 block of Huntington Way.

A physical altercation between Akel and Maher Harb, his brother-in-law, broke out after Akel walked into Harb's home waving his gun and yelling at family members around 9:30 p.m.

During the fight Akel, 42, shot Harb in the stomach. Akel was later taken into custody without incident after deputies arrived.

The victim is hospitalized in serious but stable condition at UF Health. Akel is in jail charged with armed burglary and aggravated assault, according to CCSO.
