'The boy I remember is not capable of anything so horrible': Logan Mott's nanny speaks out

Logan Mott's nanny reacts to the news that the boy she used to watch is a person of interest in the death of his grandmother.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Just days after 15-year-old Logan Mott was detained near the U.S.-Canadian border, his former caretaker spoke exclusively with First Coast News about the young man and his family.

Colleen Morris was fighting back tears when talking about the teenager she once looked-after.  Morris cared for Mott for much of 2011 when he was 9 years old.

"The boy I remember is not capable of anything so horrible," Morris said.

Mott is a person of interest in the death of his grandmother, Kristina French. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office believes police found her body in a shallow grave buried in the backyard of the Neptune Beach home they were both reported missing last week.

He was detained near the U.S.-Canadian border on November 24 by the U.S. Customs Border and Protection in Buffalo, N.Y.

She knows the Neptune Beach home well and was shocked by the images of the now blocked-off street.

"I’d grown to love him as if he were my own grandchild," Morris said.

She said Mott was well-mannered and would bond with his father over sports.

"He and his father did so much together, and they were very active, very sports minded," she said.

Morris recalled his father being a strict parent, but not unreasonable, she explained. She remembered a time when she brought Mott a pizza and a movie one night.

"I remember that being one of the most enjoyable meetings I had with Logan was eating pizza and watching that movie with Logan," Morris said.

A distant memory now, but the impression he made on her all those years ago having a lasting impact.

"Until they prove beyond every shadow of a doubt, I will not believe Logan had anything to do with this," she said.

As the teen sits in custody, Morris has one message she hopes he will hear.

"I definitely want Logan to be honest, and I know he will be honest, he’s that kind of kid," Morris said.
