PASADENA, Md. -- Police are hoping you can help them find the person who shot a man in the stomach while he was kayaking.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Saturday on Bodkin Creek in Pasadena in Anne Arundel County. Police say the shot came from a party on the shore. Police are trying to figure out whether the shooting was an accident or intentional.
Maryland Natural Resources Police say 56-year-old David Seafolk-Kopp of Reston was kayaking in an area he knew very well on Saturday night. According to spokesperson Candy Thomson told us, "He was looking up and all of a sudden he realized there was a party going on on shore... then very quickly he noticed there was a red dot on his shirt, consistent with a laser...seconds later he felt a pain in his right abdomen and he had been shot."
We're told he blacked out at some point and told officers later that he was unable to return to shore. He spent the night in the kayak, finally making it to shore more than 12 hours later.
Seafolk-Kopp reached dry land at a home. The homeowners called 911.
Shelby Sos lives next door to the home where it all happened. "It really freaked me out. It's really quiet. Then I heard ambulances and sirens," said Sos.
The good news is Seafolk-Kopp is going to be okay. Doctors removed the bullet and police are working to find out what kind of gun it came from.
The investigation is ongoing.
