A JFRD engineer was arrested Tuesday for allegedly soliciting sex from an undercover cop under the persona of a 14-year-old girl, according to police documents.
David Eugene Labelle, 53, is being held on a $20,000 bond after being formally charged with third-degree felony charges of use of a computer to seduce, solicit or lure a child and using a 2-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
An investigator with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office’s “Operation Cruel Summer” found its 20th arrested suspect through an internet commerce site with the title “Naughty Daughter.” The poster described himself as a 53-year-old white married man named David and the investigator went under the persona of a 14-year-old girl.
From July 27 to Nov. 13, the suspect and the investigator exchanged several emails which turned sexual in nature. The suspect then allegedly mentioned meeting at a location away from the girl’s residence and asked the child persona what restaurants and parks she lived near.
The suspect allegedly described performing numerous sex acts on the young girl, according to the police report issued by SJCSO.
He also allegedly sent several photos of himself that showed him with a firefighter badge and firefighter T-shirt. He also depicted himself with clothing that showed he worked at Station No. 27 with Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.
Following Labelle’s arrest, JFRD spokesman Tom Francis said Labelle, who has been employed since 2003, was immediately removed from active field duty with an internal investigation in progress
