Go kart driver hurt in hit-and-run crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a man driving a go kart was seriously hurt in a wreck on Beach Boulevard early Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Craig Andrews was driving a go kart without lights on in the inside westbound lane of Beach near Carmichael Avenue about 2:45 a.m. when someone driving either a pick-up truck or SUV struck the go kart. That driver then fled the scene of the crash, leaving vehicle debris behind, troopers said.

Andrews, 30, was not wearing a seat belt, according to FHP. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.

Now authorities are searching for a pick-up or SUV with damage to its headlights and undercarriage, according to an accident report from FHP.
