Child porn found on man's state-issued computer

A Tallahassee man was arrested Monday when 20 photos and videos of child pornography were found on his state-issued computer.

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services investigators found the images as attachments in emails located on 12-year employee James Spargo's computer, which was issued to him by the agency.

Spargo, 65, was fired Monday after a month-long internal investigation by the agency. He was a management-level employee at DACS in charge of leases and records, said Erin Gillespie, press secretary for the department.

He had worked at the agency since April 2002.

"The activity that was uncovered was horrific and disgusting," Gillespie said. "Our investigation was very thorough and resulted in yesterday's arrest."

He now faces 20 charges of possession of obscene material and is currently in the Leon County Jail.

The Windows Live Mail profile was associated with Spargo's DACS profile, court documents said.

In an interview Monday, Spargo said he viewed and sent the images and knew it was wrong, court documents said.

Some of the children found in the images were known victims identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
