Car burglar caught on camera

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Deputies in Clay County are searching for a suspected car burglar caught on camera by an Orange Park homeowner's security camera, authorities said.

The suspect is seen trying to break into a pair of vehicles at a Pawnee Street home early July 2, according to an incident report from the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Surveillance video shows a man with brown hair wearing shorts and latex gloves stymied by a locked pickup truck about 3:20 a.m., deputies said. Undeterred, the suspect can be seen breaking into and rifling through an unlocked car parked next to the truck.

Apparently he didn't find anything he liked because he rode away on his BMX bicycle without taking anything, deputies said. Neighbors said nothing was taken from their vehicles either.

The Sheriff's Office is urging residents to lock their cars in the wake of this incident.

If you recognize the man seen in the video, you're asked to call Detective Damon Hysler with CCSO at (904) 264-6512.
