Baby left in hot car leads to arrest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 22-year-old woman is behind bars after she allegedly left a baby inside a hot car Monday.

Victoria Patrice Baker is facing charges of child neglect after police responded to the Goodwill store in the 4500 block of Lenox Avenue at 8:51 a.m. and found a child locked inside Baker's car, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

A witness said the child was locked inside the car for 20 to 30 minutes. When police arrived, the child's face was covered in sweat.

As police were about to break a window, Baker came running outside. Baker claimed she was inside applying for a job, according to JSO.

The child was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Baker is currently in the Duval County Jail and is scheduled to maker her first appearance in court Tuesday May 13 at 9 a.m.
