Authorities find gun and 1 round of ammo missing in case of St. Augustine murder

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says they may have found the gun that was used to kill a St. Augustine man last week.

According to SJSO, James Henry Weaver, 56, of Los Robles Avenue was found dead inside a home last Tuesday after a friend called to have deputies check on him. An autopsy revealed he died from gunshot wounds and that his death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators found out that Weaver just moved into the home with another man, Steven Michael Canard, who died Monday night in a traffic crash on SR-207. Authorities took possession of Canard's crashed vehicle and found a handgun and one round of ammo missing.

An SJSO spokesperson said Canard is now being looked into as a suspect in the case.
