CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- More than two dozen "mid-level" drug dealers are off the streets and facing charges.
Operation Summer Slam began months ago. Deputies say through their investigations, they were able to issue 43 warrants for drug crimes ranging from possession to selling crack cocaine within 1000 feet of a school.
Deputies arrested 29 people. Investigators say most of those suspects aren't a stranger to law enforcement.
"I'm relatively familiar with all the individuals and most of them are repeat offenders," said Captain David Barnes with the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation started in February with prescription pills in Middleburg. Deputies say it didn't take long before it expanded across the county, and involved other drugs.
"It turned out to be a county wide issue and a large majority were linked together," said Barnes.
The arrests were made in more than half a dozen cities and towns, including Orange Park, Starke and Middleburg.
Barnes says these suspects are "mid-level" dealers. He says they were targeted for a bigger impact when it comes to safer streets.
"We try to disrupt the whole organization," he said.
The search continues for 14 others.
