16-year-old charged as adult for shooting deputy

ORANGE CITY, Fla. — Prosecutors with the State Attorney's Office in Volusia County are charging a 16-year-old boy as an adult in connection with attempted murder of a sheriff's deputy after he allegedly shot him last month.

Investigators say Dominic Jorgensen-Cloutier got into a showdown with deputies behind a home on West Landsdowne Avenue in Orange City on Jan. 17.

Deputies said the teen was hiding behind a shed and when ordered to come out allegedly shot Deputy John Vedder. Vedder's body armor deflected the bullet and he wasn't hurt.

Authorities were looking for Jorgensen-Cloutier in connection to an armed robbery that occurred at a convenience store the week before. They say he's one of two teens seen on surveillance robbing a Kangaroo Express at gunpoint.
