Crime Stoppers tip leads to double arrest in murder investigation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two men in a murder investigation from November of 2016.

According to police, both Robert Hines, 29, and Deshawn Robertson, 24, were arrested for fatally shooting Dante Austin, 30, on November 16. The men were charged with second degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The incident arose from an argument about drug and drug sales between Robertson and Hines and another man outside of a home on Wright Ave. The argument turned violent when Hines and Robertson pulled out their guns and began shooting at the other man.

The man ran inside, and Austin, who was not part of the argument, was hit by a bullet that went through the walls of the home. Austin was transported to a local hospital but he later died.

On November 17, police obtained arrest warrants for Robertson and Hines who were believed to have fled Jacksonville. On March 1, police received a Crime Stoppers tip that the pair were hiding out at a Days Inn in Rocky Mountain, South Carolina.

The men were taken into custody by state Marshals and brought to Jacksonville on March 9.
