Clay County substitute teacher arrested for striking student

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- James Smith, 76,  has been arrested and charged with battery after striking a student three times in the arm while he was a substitute teacher at Oaklead Jr. High.

According to a Clay County Sheriff's Office report the victim arrived to her classroom to find it very loud. Smith, acting as a substitute, was trying to get the class to calm down. Students were still talking and Smith, according to the victim, was becoming more frustrated as he began to hand out tests.

The victim said she was turned slightly in her seat when Smith struck her arm three times in anger. Her arm was slightly swollen, as was witnessed said.

This happened in February, however Smith was arrested March 3.
