The Jacksonville City Council has approved more than $880,000 for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to help reduce the number of untested rape kits on the First Coast.

A state report says Jacksonville has the second most untested kits in Florida - a backlog of more than 1,900.

Some of the money approved will also go toward the salaries of two cold case detectives who will work exclusively on the backlog.
