JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The National Hurricane Center downgraded subtropical storm Andrea with top sustained winds around 35 miles-per-hour at 11 a.m. Eastern time. Winds will continue to decrease.
Locally there will be no perceived weather from the storm. It will wrap down drier air into Georgia and Florida along with gusty N-NE winds at 25-30 mph. No significant downpours are expected near the wildfires today but a few spotty coastal showers could brush the coast. The storm will drift south offshore Daytona Beach and has no chance to strengthen due to shear, cool water temps, and unorganized convection removed far from the center of circulation.
The strongest winds and greatest erosion occurred Monday along the First Coast before Andreas name change Wednesday from an extratropical to a subtropical storm. The storm was actually weaker after the switch. It was an academic classification the National Hurricane Center made to distinguish changes with the internal mechanics of the oceanic storm. It will not bring any weather threat to our area except for high waves and continued beach erosion through Friday.
