JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith is facing DUI charges after an early morning traffic stop.
Smith was booked into the Duval County Jail around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He spent about 10 hours behind bars before bonding out.
Inside Smith's vehicle officers also found marijuana butts inside the console.
Smith had a strong odor of the drug on his clothing.
When Smith was asked if he had smoked marijuana, he told the officer "I just finished it."
When an officer approached the vehicle, Smith handed him his beer bottle.
The officer gave Smith a field sobriety test, in which he failed.
The former Jaguars All-pro wide receiver has had drug problems in the past. The league suspended him in 2003 for violating the substance abuse policy.
Two years earlier, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer pulled Smith over for speeding.
The arresting officer believed Smith was under the influence.
Tests showed Smith had traces of metabolized cocaine in his system.
Smith denied using the drug. He was never charged because his blood alcohol level was below the legal limit.
