CRESCENT CITY, FL -- Firefighters have a 175 acre wildfire 30-40 percent contained.

The wildfire is burning near the Whispering Pines neighborhood off County Road 308 on Landvale Road and Briley Road just west of Crescent City.

Authorities evacuated 50 homes Tuesday afternoon, only to let residents back into their homes later that night.

Crews feel confident the fire is under control.

No structures have been burned and there are no reports of any injuries.

Crews from St Johns County and Volusia County are on the fire lines with teams from Putnam County and the Division of Forestry.

Major Keith Riddick of Putnam County said the cause of the fire has been traced to a short in a Clay Electric transformer.

Riddick says the short caused a reaction that blew pieces of hot aluminum into some dry brush, which caught fire around 5:45 p.m.

The wildfire dropped ash and blanketed the Palm Coast area with smoke, according to Flagler County Emergency Services Director Nathan McCollum.

Authorities said a wind out of the west carried a lot of smoke from the fire in Crescent, but the fire itself is not a threat to Flagler County.

Emergency leaders sent up a helicopter to survey the Putnam County wildfire as a precautionary move.

There is a 40 acre fire burning along the border of Baker and Columbia counties in the Osceola National Forest.

Authorities expect that fire to grow to 100 acres, part of that will be from intentional fires set by firefighters to burn away fuel.

A third wildfire is burning in Brantley County. It is close to 1,200 acre. Officials there say it is 75% contained.

One mobile home was destroyed along with a few out parcels.

Officials tell us there was a voluntary evacuation earlier in the day and 100 homes where affected. Those residents are now back in their homes.
