JACKSONVILE,FL -- Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Maurice Williams will remain with the team. The Jaguars re-signed the unrestricted free agent Thursday.
The 7th year veteran has spent his entire career in Jacksonville after being selected in the second round of the 2001 NFL draft out of Michigan. The 29 year old Williams started 10 of his 15 games last season for the Jaguars.
The 6-5, 302-pounder started two games at left tackle and took over at right guard for the final eight games in place of injured starter Chris Naeole.
He started at right guard for both postseason games. With Williams in the starting lineup, the Jaguars have rushed for the two highest totals in team history the last two seasons as they finished with 2,391 yards (149.4 avg.) in 2007 and a franchise-record 2,541 yards (158.6 avg.) in 2006.
The Jaguars led the AFC and ranked second in the NFL in rushing in 2007.
Williams has started 95 of his 100 career games with the Jaguars and at one time had a streak of 64 consecutive starts.
His 95 career starts rank seventh in team history and he is one of only 12 players to play in at least 100 games in Jacksonville.
