Indictments In Clay County Dumping Scandal

By Jessica Clark First Coast News GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL -- A grand jury indicted three people involved in a $9 million dumping scandal in Clay County Thursday. The indictments came down against Clay County Commissioner Christy Fitzgerald, former Public Works Director Arthur Ivey along with a third unnamed person. Fitzgerald and Ivey turned themselves in to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon. The alleged incidents date back to early part of 2004. 51-year-old Ivey has been indicted on 20 counts. They include dumping/littering, official misconduct, grand theft, petit theft, and violating Department of Environmental Protection rules. The items stem back to illegal dumping of materials into various locations. 45-year-old Fitzgerald has been indicted on five counts. Four of them are petit theft. One is official misconduct, which is a felony. The felony indictment means she will be removed from public office. The counts against Ivey deal with the theft of labor and construction materials from the county for her own home. The two have been released on their own recognizance. Related articles:
