Jacksonville Sheriff's Office found a man dead in his car with multiple gun shot wounds

UPDATE 9/5/2013 1:45 p.m.: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 58-year-old Ronnie Mathis.  

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a body in a car late Wednesday night.

Homicide detectives arrived on scene in the 2800 block of Sophia Street and found a man dead shot to death in his car.

The victim's identity has not been released, but police said he is a black male in his 40's or 50's.

Neighbors at the Huron-Sophia Apartments in the Woodstock area of the Westside told police the victim may have had grenades in his car prompting JSO to evacuate the apartment complex.

A search of the vehicle confirmed that there were no grenades in the victim's car. The evacuation was lifted at that time.

There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.
