MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Brunswick teen facing murder charges in the death of a toddler could find out if he'll spend the rest of his life in prison as soon as Friday.
De'Marquise Elkins is charged in the March 21 shooting that killed 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.
The defense rested Thursday evening in what has been a very strange trial. The judge denied several mistrials requests called by the defense daily.
One of the last witnesses for the defense was Louis Santiago. He is the father of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. The defense trying to poke holes in his story, asking where he was and who he was with at the time of the shooting. Santiago admitts he was about a half block away but didn't hear anything.
The defense attempting to put blame on anyone but its client. De'Marquise's mother, Karimah Elkins, also faces charges for evidence tampering and lying to police.
Both declined to testify.
