JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two people died in a fiery crash on Philips Highway Friday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash that occurred just before 5 a.m. involving a garbage truck and a black Kia Sedona SUV.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the garbage truck was traveling southbound on Philips Highway in the right lane, while the Kia was in the left lane.
The driver of the garbage truck allegedly tried to make a left turn from the right lane and did not see the Kia. The Kia's left rear tires were hit in the crash, which caused the Kia to overturn. The Kia came to a final rest on its roof in the center median.
The Kia also caught fire following the crash and Florida Highway Patrol confirmed two people in the SUV died, identified as 33-year-old Wade Lamar Jenkins and Eric Douglas Acy Jr., 25.
All lanes northbound and southbound between Cyprus Plaza and Baymeadows Way were closed for four hours as crews responded to investigate the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office were on scene for several hours Friday morning.
All lanes of Philips Highway reopened around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
