ORLANDO, Fla. -- Leah Sykes of Jacksonville, Fla., was crowned Miss Florida's Outstanding Teen 2014 on Aug. 17.
The competition was held at the Linda Chapin Theater at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
In addition to the title, Sykes won a $25,000 scholarship, subsidized by the Rosen Centre Hotel to continue her education.
As Miss America's Outstanding Teen, she will travel across the country to promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, community involvement and healthy living. She will also speak about her platform "Seeing Beyond Disabilities," and acting as the teen ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which is the is the national platform of the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization.
Miss America's Outstanding Teen is the "little sister" organization of the Miss America Scholarship Organization. The not-for-profit program has made more than $4 million in college scholarships available nationally to young women from 13 to 17 years of age.
