ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- James Lyons is arrested for the second time in a week for animal cruelty, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office press release.

Lyons, 52, is charged with additional charges of cruelty to animals, sexual activities involving animals and failure to register as a Sexual Predator. He was previously charged on July 26 for charges of animal cruelty and sexual activity involving an animal when a neighbor discovered injuries to one of his dogs.

One of the conditions for Lyons' pretrial release is that he may not have any pets at his residence, the release detailed.

Animal Control Officers removed two dogs from Lyons' residence and taken to Matanzas River Animal Hospital for examination. The release said the Pit Bull didn't show signs of injuries, however the 42-pound Terrier Mix sustained injuries.

Veterinarian Dr. Nicholas stated, "The injuries to this dog's genitals were appalling." He added, "There is no doubt that this dog suffered a great amount of pain...The suffering that this dog endured and continues to endure during the healing process cannot be overstated."

Lyons is charged with failure to register as a Sexual Predator when evidence obtained during the initial investigation revealed that he was staying at the U.S. 1 South residence on numerous occasions. Since the beginning of the year he was registered at a St. Augustine Shores address, which he didn't register the temporary address until the investigation from July 26.

County Animal Control is caring for the Terrier mix, which Lyons said was a stray. Both the Terrier mix and Pit Bull will be up for adoption at a later time.
