SR16 shut down after man involved in crash makes false bomb threat

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Bomb Squad is responding to a crash I-95 and SR16 near St. Augustine after a man involved indicated he may have a bomb. 

After the Florida State Trooper's arrival at the crash around 1:40, one of the driver's involved became resistant with him and the St. Johns deputy already at the scene.

The subject indicated that he may have a bomb or explosive device. The roadway has been shutdown in both directions, according to FHP. 

The St. Johns County Bomb squad is assisting in searching the crashed car for a device.

SR 16 is blocked in both directions.

One witness says drivers cannot exit interstate onto SR16. Another witness told First Coast News he sees a law enforcement robot approaching the vehicle to inspect it.

Traffic on I-95 is backed up from SR-16 past Intl. Golf Parkway near World Golf Village, according to witnesses.

UPDATE: (6:50 p.m.) SR16 has resumed normal operations.

UPDATE: (7:28 p.m.) Suspect identified as Victor Ruben Davis Calderon, 48, of Guatemala is in custody

UPDATE: (8:56) After crash, Calderon was detained for attempting to leave the scene of an accident and indicating the possibility of an explosive device in the vehicle, according to SJCSO.

A search of the vehicle by the bomb squad found no device within the vehicle and the roadway was reopened around 6:42 pm. 

Calderon was arrested and transported to the St. Johns County Jail
and charged with the following: No drivers license, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, resisting without violence, and false report of a bomb/explosive and or weapon of mass destruction, according to SJCSO.
