JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced an arrest in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Metro PCS store clerk.
Shelby Farah was shot and killed Saturday night when 21-year-old James Xavier Rhodes allegedly walked into the store with his face covered and demanded money. According to Lt. Rob Schoonover, Farah was shot three times, "execution style".
Wednesday afternoon the Farah family waited for a chance to see Rhodes appear before a judge. Rhodes waived his appearance, leaving a public defender standing before the judge. The Farah family left frustrated being denied a face-to-face opportunity to see the man who police say pulled the trigger.
"He approached her at the counter, pointed gun at her and demanded the money. She cooperated, she was doing what he asked once she handed him last bit of money he fired three rounds killing her," said Schoonover.
Witnesses said they heard gunshots and when police arrived, they found Farah behind the counter with a gunshot wound.
The suspect left the scene on foot after the shooting with several hundred dollars.
Days after the shooting, JSO released an image of Rhodes walking near the store with a bandanna around his neck. The video generated multiple tips that led police to identifying Rhodes.
Rhodes was eventually turned in by family members and an arrest was made late Tuesday night at a bus stop on the 8700 block of Atlantic Boulevard.
According to the arrest report, Rhodes also goes by the name James Kilcrease and 'Killer'.
Rhodes has an extensive juvenile record and served eight months in jail on charges of possession of a firearm by a juvenile delinquent.
Rhodes is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lt. Schoonover said JSO is still seeking a person of interest in the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
