JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A Jacksonville woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting her adult daughter.
A Duval County judge sentenced 55-year-old Silvana Catignani on Thursday. She pleaded no contest last month to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the shooting.
The Florida Times-Union (http://goo.gl/MtnZR) reports that 24-year-old Nicole Catignani was found shot to death in her home in December 2011. Authorities say the mother and daughter had been selling pills and got into an argument.
Silvana Catignani initially told police her daughter was shot while she was out of the house, but cell phone records showed she wasn't where she claimed to be. She eventually admitted to shooting her daughter but claimed it was an accident. Instead of helping the younger woman, Silvana Catignani left to get rid of the gun.
