ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found in a burned vehicle near County Road 13 and Cowpen Branch Road, according to SJCSO Commander Chuck Mulligan.
The St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the incident when a passerby found the vehicle smoldering on the dirt road; however the vehicle was completely burned.
The area the vehicle was found and the fire condition led the area to be treated as a crime scene, the report said. The vehicle has been transported to a dry storage area for further investigation.
A SJCSO press release later detailed human remains had been found in the trunk. The district medical examiner's office determined that the remains are human.
