JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A crash on the 3200 block of Phillips Highway closed traffic in both directions Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday, initially closing all southbound lanes of traffic on the 3000 block of Phillips Highway.
A burgundy SUV traveling northbound on Phillips Highway appears to have clipped a car pulling out of a driveway, according to Det. Blaquiere with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
As a result, the SUV subsequently crossed into southbound lanes of traffic, crashing into a concrete wall and flipping, Blaquiere detailed on scene.
The driver of the SUV, a man in his twenties, was ejected from his vehicle and taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle involved was not injured in the crash.
An investigation is underway and alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Both southbound and northbound lanes of traffic on the 3100 block of Phillips Highway were closed just before 6:00 a.m.
Phillips Highway was closed until at through 8:30 a.m., causing traffic delays in the area.
