JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Part of Interstate 295 southbound was closed for more than two hours on Monday night due to a fatal motorcycle crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened just after 7 p.m. on the I-295 west beltway at mile marker 1 just before the Interstate 95 interchange.
According to an FHP report, the motorcycle was traveling behind a Saturn Aura in the center lane. The driver of the Saturn slowed to a stop for traffic and the motorcyclist failed to stop in time. The motorcyclist was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist has not yet been identified by FHP.
UPDATE: The motorcyclists has been identified as Joseph Sherman, 33, of Jacksonville, Florida, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
