FHP searching for vehicle involved in hit-and-run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the vehicle involved in a crash that left one driver in critical condition Sunday night.

According to witnesses, two vehicles were traveling westbound on J. Turner Butler Boulevard near Kernan Boulevard around 11 p.m.

Both cars were speeding and weaving in and out of traffic according to the FHP media release.

One of the cars, a blue Volkswagen Beetle, collided into the right rear of a Toyota Tacoma causing it to lose control, collide with the concrete barrier wall and flip several times. 

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition. 

The Volkswagen then left the scene of the crash.

FHP is now looking for the driver of the blue Volkswagen Beetle, which FHP says is a model between the years of 1998-2010.

According to the report, the Volkswagen has a damaged left front bumper and partially missing left front headlight. 

FHP is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle or the driver to call the FHP at (904) 359-6572.
