JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A three-car fatal accident on the Southside of Jacksonville Friday evening is under investigation.
The accident left one driver, James Smith, 26, dead, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office press release. It did not mention the names or injuries for the other two drivers involved.
According to the press release, the crash happened at the intersection of Monument Road and Regency Square Boulevard at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The first vehicle, driven by Smith, was traveling south on Monument Road and the second vehicle was traveling northbound.
The second vehicle was in the left turn lane, past the stop line, waiting to turn when the stop light turned yellow. According to the report, the second vehicle turned left when it was struck on the passenger door by the front end of the first vehicle.
The second vehicle continued across the intersection where it allegedly hit the front end of a third car, which was stopped in the eastbound lane of Regency Square Boulevard.
Smith was transported by rescue to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
