ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A former substitute teacher no longer in the classroom faces charges with sexual activity with a minor.
Stacey Slamka, 48, turned herself in last week following an investigation that started a year ago.
That's when a parent of a teenager who attended Pedro Menendez High School showed school officials text messages exchanged between the teenage boy and the teacher.
The teen told investigators they had six sexual encounters near his home in Hastings. The 16 year-old said the alleged sexual contacts started in December 2011.
Slamka in police reports told an investigator once she explained "some things" in this case would probably "go away."
The substitute teacher's employment was terminated by the district when the allegations surfaced in the spring of 2012.
A man who answered the door at the Slamka home would only say to contact their attorney, who did not return a phone call.
Slamka is free on bond after she turned herself in last week.
